Our Activities

Rescue & Rehabilitation
Every call for help matters to us. People for Animals Hooghly's dedicated team rushes to rescue injured, abused, or abandoned dogs and cats, providing immediate medical attention and a safe space to heal. From road accident victims to animals suffering from disease or cruelty, we ensure every rescued life receives compassionate care, proper treatment, and time to recover — because every animal deserves a second chance at a safe, healthy life.

Shelter & Safe Haven
Every animal deserves a safe place to live. Our shelter provides a warm, secure haven for rescued, injured, and abandoned dogs and cats across Hooghly. Here, they receive nutritious food, clean surroundings, medical care, and gentle companionship while they recover. For animals too vulnerable for the streets, our shelter becomes a temporary home, offering comfort, healing, and the chance to trust again until they find a loving family.

Animal Birth Control (ABC) Programme
Overpopulation leads to suffering — for the animals and the community. Our Animal Birth Control programme humanely sterilises street dogs and cats, helping control population growth while improving the overall health and temperament of stray animals. Conducted by trained veterinarians following strict hygiene and welfare standards, this scientific and compassionate approach reduces street conflicts, prevents unwanted litters, and creates a safer, more balanced coexistence between animals and residents.

Anti-Rabies Vaccination
Rabies remains one of the biggest threats to street animals and humans alike. Through regular vaccination drives, we immunise strays, protecting them — and the community — from this fatal disease. Our teams work closely with local authorities and veterinarians to ensure maximum coverage, especially in high-risk areas. By making rabies-free, we safeguard both animal welfare and public health, one vaccination at a time.

Adoption Drive
Every rescued animal deserves a loving home. People for Animals Hooghly’s adoption programme carefully matches sterilised, vaccinated, and rehabilitated animals with caring families, giving them a second chance at a happy life. We guide adopters through the entire process, offering support even after adoption to ensure a smooth transition. By choosing to adopt rather than buy, you not only gain a loyal companion but also help reduce the number of homeless animals suffering on the streets.

Community Feeding Programme
Hunger is a daily struggle for street animals. Our feeding volunteers regularly provide nutritious meals to stray dogs and cats, ensuring they don't go without food, especially during harsh weather. This simple act of kindness builds trust between animals and communities, reduces aggressive behaviour caused by hunger, and creates safer neighbourhoods. Consistent feeding also allows us to monitor the health of street animals and identify those needing urgent medical care.

Awareness & Education
Lasting change begins with awareness. We conduct educational programmes, school visits, and community workshops to promote humane treatment of animals and responsible pet ownership. By teaching children and adults about compassion, animal behaviour, and the importance of sterilization and vaccination, we're building a generation that values coexistence over cruelty. Awareness is our most powerful tool in creating long-term, sustainable change for animal welfare in our society.
